ABOUT

As its name suggests, Linkly is a cloud-based link management software designed for online marketers. Not only can it be used by businesses to create links but also to redirect and track them so that they can measure the effectiveness of their online advertising campaigns. Linkly was launched only in 2019, and the platform is a relatively new one. The creation of Chris Muktar, the brain behind WikiJob, is a leading career guidance platform that gets over 1 million visitors every month. While promoting and marketing his website, the entrepreneur tried several click-tracking software available on the market. Not satisfied with the performance of any, he decided to ‘scratch the itch’ by designing one that fits his business needs. Despite its fledgling status, the platform’s promising performance has seen it pick up some big-name clients such as Accenture, Manpower Group, and Springer. Currently, the company has a workforce of around ten people and is headquartered in London.

Who Is Linkly For?

Due to its eclectic pricing range, Linkly can be used by a wide variety of business sizes, from small and medium-sized companies to enterprise-level organizations. Besides, the fact that it has a freemium plan (even if it is a slightly limited one) makes it an attractive choice for solo entrepreneurs and startups. What’s great is that you have a software that your business can stick with as it grows between freemium and wide-ranging paid plans. Feature-wise, it has a good repertoire of tools inclusive of the needs of most business types. As the software was designed with online marketers in mind, it is a particularly good fit for affiliate marketers, media buyers, online ad agencies, and publisher networks.

PRICING

Besides the freemium plan, this tracking platform has two pricing plans. One is intended for personal or solo accounts, and the other is for business accounts. All priced plans come only with monthly subscription offers. Besides, they both give users a 14-day, credit-card free trial. Also, the company graciously offers a generous discount of 50% to registered non-profit organizations and charities.

There is a lot of overlap between the plans, with the only significant difference being the number of clicks allowed. As mentioned above, the platform’s freemium plan is a limited one that allows only 1000 clicks/month. It is hard to imagine any website, other than ones with low traffic volumes, getting accurate results with this restriction. Importantly, there are no sign-up fees or contracts to sign. So, you can unsubscribe and upgrade or downgrade your plans whenever you like with no legal consequences.

FEATURES

  1. Link Management
  2. Redirects
  3. Tracking And Reporting
  4. Fraud Protection

1. Link Management

The platform’s link management tools are robust and all-inclusive. It allows users to do everything from shortening links to redirecting them and a whole lot in between. The software’s core functionality of link shortening is an easy feature to use. The only mandatory step is to paste in the destination URL where you want your links to go. Once done, the software generates a shortened link you can use in place of the one you provided.

Along with this, the app has several other link management features too. For one, you can add retargeting pixels to your links, so you can hit visitors with targeted ads even after they have left your site or have finished visiting your link. This widely used and profitable marketing tool is an excellent way for marketers to fine-tune their advertisements and cater to their target audience.

For another, Linkly allows you to change OG (Open Graph) tags for every link you share on social media. This flexibility means that you can manipulate everything from the title and description of your content to the image being displayed with your link on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. This linking makes your content more eye-catching, but it also lets consumers know what it is all about with one glance.

Besides, Linkly allows users to create branded links or vanity URLs that help associate the links they share with their brand. If you have one, you can add a custom domain to the system, and the software will generate a custom link. The branded link comes with a suffix that you can edit to your liking. Helpfully, the company’s reps will help you set up a domain if you don’t have one, for free. You will also find domain-specific instructions for providers such as GoDaddy and NameCheap that will help you faultlessly connect the two systems.

2. Redirects

There are plenty of link-redirecting options available with Linkly. First, the software allows you to redirect traffic based on the country. This is especially beneficial for businesses that already know their target audience and geographical market. You can also segregate traffic according to a user’s device. The software has options for iOS, Android, Windows, Linux, and Mac devices. Second, you can redirect a slice of the traffic to alternate link destinations. What’s great is that you can manipulate the traffic such that it is a 50/50, 60/40, or 70/20 split according to your liking. You can use this feature to run an A/B test on your links to see which one is generating more conversions.

Third, automatic link replacements are also possible with this platform. Here, the software will replace all the links on your site with system-generated ones. The process is a relatively simple one as it only requires you to list out the URLs you need replacing on your website. This feature not only helps you save time but is also a fail-safe mechanism in case of link rot or death. Link rot or death is when a link is unable to take visitors to its original destination due to the web page or server being taken down or relocated. Furthermore, the software can also automatically replace words or phrases on your website with links, another time-saving feature.

Fourth, if you want to hide your URL destination from your visitors, Linkly allows you to cloak or mask your link. Doing this will cause the landing page to be displayed in an iFrame, effectively hiding the URL. However, this feature should be used with caution as some websites prevent masking to block spammers and hackers. Helpfully, the software will alert you if your entered destination is one that disallows cloaked links. And finally, you can assign a referrer tag to your links, so you know which websites are sending traffic your way. Alternatively, if, for some reason, you want to hide your traffic source, the software allows you to do that too by wiping any HTTP referer headers from your links. Another time-saving tool is that most of these features can be set to default, so you do not have to configure them every time you add a new link.

3. Tracking And Reporting

The platform has two central reporting dashboards, namely the links and traffic dashboards. Both give you an overview of your marketing activities, allowing you to see how your links are performing with one glance. With the link tracking, there are close to 20 data columns available. These data columns range from metrics such as clicks over the last 30 days to conversions and Google Analytics data. You can add and delete columns according to what data is critical to you. However, you cannot rearrange the position of the columns. Helpfully, if you have opted to display a lot of data columns, the software has a slider at the bottom of the screen that lets you view them all easily. You can also copy columns with the click of a button.

Linkly’s traffic dashboard is a very visual one as the data is represented in graphical form. The software uses a combination of bar graphs and sparkline charts to display essential metrics. While total conversions are represented numerically and as a bar graph, a comparative look at past and present click traffic is shown as sparkline charts embossed over each other. Importantly, all the different metrics are color-coded so that there is a clear demarcation between them. This color-coding makes it both easy to understand and pleasing to the eye. Also, you can filter the view by showing unique clicks or choosing to include robot views. Below the graph, data is also represented in tabular form. The system also allows you to export these reports as an Excel sheet.

4. Fraud Protection

As mentioned above, the software can differentiate between genuine clicks and traffic coming from search bots and spiders. The traffic tab even displays all the known bots Linkly has tracked (the app can identify over 200 different bots). You can block the bots from accessing your links if you want to exclude these results from your data. Once blocked, the software shows search spiders that try to access your link a ‘Not Found’ or ‘404’ message. However, if you are posting links to social media, you are best served by not using this feature as the social media bots create helpful previews of your links and give you spam protection.

INTEGRATIONS

At present, Linkly only integrates with six third-party applications. This limitation is likely because it does not have a campaign management feature and does not require connections with redirect and affiliate platforms. Importantly, one of the integrations is with Zapier, an association that opens the platform up to hundreds of other apps. Also, Linkly has an open API that you can use to create links to other platforms.

Here are Linkly’s integrations:

  • Google Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Google Sheets
  • Zapier
  • Google Analytics
  • Bitly

More About Linkly

Set Up And Ease Of Use

You can subscribe to the platform using your Google platform or your email id. Once in, things are just as easy. Given the brevity of its features, there isn’t much of an onboarding process you need to go through. One of the few tools that require configuring is the links feature. That, too, only if you already have a set of links you want to shorten and track. Even for that, the software has a plan in place. It allows you to import all your links in one go using the Google Sheets add-on feature.

Also, consumers who have been using Bitly can import their existing links into the system with just one click. Furthermore, for the more complicated task of setting up a custom domain, you can reach out to the company’s reps for help, and they will guide you through it. The system also allows you to add an unlimited number of users. To add one, you will need to send them an email invite. However, aside from an admin role, there are no other user-access controls.

Linkly’s user interface is a good looking one. It sports a clean and well-defined look that is soothing to the eye. The application only has five tabs, all of which are housed in the vertical menu situated on the left-hand side of the screen. What’s nice is that you can collapse the main menu if you want more space to view your link or traffic tracking reports. The live-chat button is situated prominently in red in the right-hand corner of the screen. Helpfully, as you configure the system, there are links to help articles available for the more challenging tasks, something that tech novices will appreciate.

Device Compatibility

X

X

X

X

At present, Linkly does not have an iOS or Android app. Besides, the company has no plans to design one anytime soon. Considering that there isn’t too much tweaking that needs to be done once the software is set up, this is not a dealbreaker. Also, the platform’s web application is a mobile-responsive one so that you can access it through your phone’s browser should the need arise. As can be expected, the software’s interface looks slightly different on your mobile, but it has the same ease-of-use and functionality as when you access it through your desktop.

Customer Care

Whether it is a reflection of their startup status or company culture, Linkly’s customer service reps seem eager to help. They typically respond quickly and are knowledgeable in their answers. Officially, the company offers email and live chat help from 9 PM to 6 PM on weekdays. This support is available even for subscribers to the free plan. That said, they are known to respond to customer queries the same day, even on weekends. Also, you can arrange a call with one of the company’s reps by filling out a form on their website.

Along with this, the software has a self-help portal that users can peruse through. It is filled with getting-started guides and documents on all its features, big and small. The only thing the platform lacks is in the video department. It has only four video tutorials, all of which are under 2 minutes.

Online Security

This link-tracking software has adequate security measures in place to ensure customer data is always protected. It provides Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protection for all redirects and logins into the system. Besides, the platform uses HTTPS for all its pages and regularly updates its firewalls. Moreover, if two-factor authentication is vital to you, the company’s reps informed us that they would gladly set that up for you.

PROS AND CONS

PROS

  • Affordable and scalable pricing
  • Easy to set up and use
  • Good-looking user-interface
  • Robust link management tools
  • Plenty of redirect options
  • Adequate fraud protection features
  • Comprehensive reporting
  • Responsive and knowledgeable customer care agents

CONS

  • Limited free plan
  • No Mobile app
  • The small number of integrations

CONCLUSION

Linkly has a lot of things going for it. The application is easy to use and affordable. More importantly, it does the job it was designed to do, which is to manage and track links efficiently. This efficiency is due to its small but robust set of features, chief of which is the plethora of options the software gives you to tweak and fine-tune your link settings. Furthermore, in terms of documentation and reporting, there is much to like about the comprehensiveness and aesthetics of the reports too. And don’t forget the attentive customer service reps that earn the platform a lot of brownie points.

If there are any negatives, it has to do with the underwhelming free plan that only allows 1000 clicks/month. Once you have reached that limit, the app disables your links till the month-end. A better option would have been to enable customers to purchase extra clicks. The platform’s limited number of integrations also counts as a strike against it. However, this is probably because it is a nascent application that will soon add to its integration coffers. All said and done, and between its free plan and 14-day, credit-card-free trials and robust feature set, it is well worth giving Linkly a trial run, if only to see how it stacks against the competition.
